Next week (with the weather permitting) we will attempt the first scientific battlefield archaeology documentation dives to the German Junkers JU 88-A5 bomber shot down over Hanko in early July 1941 during the early days of Operation Barbarossa .
Despite several dives to the site in the 1990´s the exact location of the wreck and it´s present day state of preservation is not known. The Hanko 1941 project also sets out to investigate and record the fates of items salvaged from the wrecksite since 1941.

This first dive to the wrecksite will be very important for the more extensive dives planned for 2021.
I will post updates of the preliminary results of this first expedition here as soon as possible !
