WW2 Conflict Arhaeology for schools in 2020-2021

In the midst of these dark days suddenly a ray of light in the form of a new project that aims to present WW2 Conflict Arhaeology in 40 + schools all over the Uusimaa region in 2020 – 2021.

The project is called ”The Traces of War near You – Interdisciplinary WW2 Conflict and Battelfield archaeology for Schools”. It is based on new modern conflict archaeology research especially in S. Finland (the ”Hanko 1941” and ”Durchgangslager Hanko 1942-1944” projects). It explains and deals with the WW2 material and cultural heritage that still surrounds us all in our everyday life almost 80 years after the end of the war.

The narrative aims at beeing a personal one, highlighting the individual stories and tragic fates of soldiers from different sides of the conflict as highlighted by modern conflict archaeology research in Finland from Hanko in the south to Lappland in the far north.

Needless to say I feel very excited about this as the fieldwork season is very badly affected by the current COVID-19 situation here in Finland. See you in school in autumn.
